Eucalyptus parvula
Eucalyptus parvula is a compact evergreen tree with fine, weeping branches and small, rounded grey-green leaves. In spring, it produces soft clusters of creamy white flowers, adding gentle seasonal interest. Its tidy form and smaller size make it ideal for home gardens or shelter planting.
Best grown in full sun with well-draining soil, Eucalyptus parvula suits native, rural, and contemporary gardens. It handles light frost and dry spells once established. Allow 4–6 metres between plants. At maturity, it reaches around 6–10 metres tall and 4–6 metres wide, offering a graceful, easy-care feature.
Trimming: Lightly prune in late winter or early spring to maintain a balanced form and remove any crossing or damaged branches. Harder pruning can be done if size control is needed.
Fertilising: Apply a low-phosphorus, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to encourage healthy, steady growth.
Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase. Once established, it is drought-tolerant but benefits from deep watering during extended dry periods.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free, but monitor for psyllids and treat with horticultural oil if infestations are noted.
Disease Management: Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot. Watch for signs of dieback or fungal issues; prune and dispose of any affected branches promptly to maintain plant health.
