Eucalyptus Blue Ice
Eucalyptus Blue Ice is a striking evergreen tree known for its aromatic, silvery-blue foliage that adds year-round texture and colour to gardens and landscapes. The rounded juvenile leaves are highly ornamental and often sought after for floral arrangements. In spring, small white flowers appear, enhancing its visual appeal and attracting pollinators.
Preferring a sunny position with well-draining soil, Eucalyptus Blue Ice is well-suited to Mediterranean, coastal, and contemporary garden styles. It is drought-tolerant once established and responds well to light pruning to maintain shape or size. Allow at least 3-5 metres of space when planting to accommodate its natural growth. At maturity, it typically reaches around 6-10 metres tall with a neat, upright form, offering a beautiful backdrop or feature planting.
Trimming: Lightly prune after flowering or in late winter to maintain a tidy shape and encourage dense, attractive foliage. Harder pruning can be done to control size if needed.
Fertilising: Feed with a low-phosphorus, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support healthy growth without overstimulating soft, weak shoots.
Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant but benefits from deep watering during prolonged dry periods.
Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant, though monitor for psyllids and treat with horticultural oil if infestations occur.
Disease Management: Watch for signs of root rot in poorly drained soils. Ensure good drainage and avoid waterlogging to maintain a healthy root system. Remove any affected branches promptly if dieback is observed.
