Dracaena draco

Dracaena draco, or the Dragon Tree, is a remarkable evergreen tree belonging to the asparagus family. This majestic tree can reach heights of up to 15m, with a trunk circumference eventually exceeding 5m. Initially displaying smooth bark, the tree's texture becomes rougher as it ages. At around 10-15 years old, the dragon tree produces a flower spike with fragrant, lily-like flowers followed by coral berries. It then develops a crown of terminal buds, leading to branching. Each branch grows for approximately 10-15 years before re-branching, resulting in an umbrella-like canopy. While slow-growing, taking about 10 years to reach 1.2m, the dragon tree can exhibit faster growth under favourable conditions.
