Albizia Red Silk

Albizia julibrissin Red Silk, also known as the Red Silk Tree, is a stunning deciduous tree that features finely divided, fern-like foliage and vibrant deep pink to red, silky flowers from mid-summer to early autumn. These fluffy, fragrant flowers attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, adding life and colour to your garden. Its umbrella-shaped canopy offers dappled shade, making it a standout feature tree in warm, sunny landscapes.

Ideal for tropical, Mediterranean, or modern gardens, this tree thrives in full sun with well-draining soil. It tolerates dry conditions once established and prefers a sheltered position with protection from harsh frost. Provide enough space to accommodate its broad, spreading habit.

At maturity, it reaches a height of 6–8 m with a canopy spread of 5–7 m, creating a graceful, airy structure that adds both height and texture to your garden.

Trimming: Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the tree and remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Regular pruning encourages a healthy structure and improved flowering.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring to support new growth. For established trees, fertilise annually to maintain vigour.

Watering: Water deeply during prolonged dry spells, particularly when the tree is young. Once established, Albizia is relatively drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering.

Pest Control: Keep an eye out for pests such as spider mites or caterpillars. Treat infestations with horticultural oil or insecticidal soap if necessary.

Disease Management: Albizia can be susceptible to Fusarium wilt, which causes yellowing and wilting of leaves. Avoid overwatering and ensure well-draining soil. Remove infected branches and improve air circulation around the tree.
