Acer palmatum var. dissectum Viridis is a small tree highly prized for its graceful, weeping form and delicate, finely-cut foliage. Its leaves are a vibrant green throughout the spring and summer, providing a refreshing, cool appearance in the garden. As autumn approaches, the foliage transitions to golden yellow with hints of crimson, offering a soft yet striking end-of-season display.

Perfect for smaller garden spaces, Viridis thrives in partial to full shade where its colors can be best preserved against the harshness of direct sunlight. It prefers moist, well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. Its compact and cascading growth habit makes it an excellent choice for ornamental use in rock gardens, alongside water features, or in large containers where its elegant form can be fully appreciated.

Reaches a mature height of approx. 1.5m and width of 1m.

Trimming: Trim Acer viridis in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and remove any dead or crossing branches. Light pruning can be done throughout the growing season to maintain desired size and shape.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers which can encourage excessive, weak growth. A second application can be made in mid-summer if necessary.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and during extended dry periods. Ensure the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged.

Pest Control: Monitor for aphids, scale insects, and spider mites. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil as soon as they are noticed.

Disease Management: Watch for signs of fungal diseases such as verticillium wilt and powdery mildew. Ensure good air circulation around the tree and apply appropriate fungicides if necessary. Remove and dispose of any affected leaves or branches to prevent the spread of disease.
