Tecoma stans Mayan Gold
Notify MeTecoma stans Mayan Gold is a fast-growing, semi-evergreen shrub with bright golden-yellow trumpet-shaped flowers that appear from spring through to autumn. Its upright habit and extended flowering season make it ideal for hedging, screening, or adding vibrant colour to warm, sunny garden spaces.
Plant in full sun with free-draining soil. Tolerates heat, drought, and light frost once established. Water during dry periods and prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage fresh growth. Space plants 1 to 1.5 metres apart for screening or grouped planting.
Reaches approximately 2 to 3 metres tall and 1.5 to 2 metres wide.
Trimming: Prune lightly after flowering to shape the plant and encourage further flowering. A harder cutback in late winter or early spring helps maintain a compact form and promotes vigorous new growth.
Deadheading: Remove spent flower clusters regularly to support continuous flowering and improve appearance.
Fertilising: Use a slow-release fertiliser in early spring, followed by a liquid feed every four to six weeks during the growing season to sustain healthy growth and flowering.
Watering: Water consistently during establishment. Once established, the plant is drought-tolerant but benefits from deep watering during prolonged dry periods.
Pest Control: Keep an eye out for aphids and caterpillars, particularly on young shoots. Remove manually or treat with insecticidal soap if infestations occur.
Disease Management: Generally resistant to disease. Ensure good drainage and airflow to reduce the risk of fungal issues. Remove any damaged or discoloured foliage to maintain plant health.
