Rosemary Chef's Choice. This rosemary is a culinary delight and has been especially selected for its fantastic flavour. Lovely to grow in the herb or ornamental garden in a warm sunny spot. Pretty blue flowers that attract bees.
Trimming: Trim Rosemary ‘Chef’s Choice’ lightly after flowering to maintain a compact, bushy shape and prevent the plant becoming woody. Avoid cutting hard into old, bare wood, as rosemary may not regrow well from it.
Deadheading: Deadheading is not essential, but spent flowers can be lightly trimmed off after flowering to tidy the plant and encourage fresh growth.
Fertilising: Feed sparingly in spring with a light application of balanced slow-release fertiliser or compost. Avoid overfeeding, as rich conditions can reduce the strength of the aromatic foliage.
Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Once established, Rosemary ‘Chef’s Choice’ is drought tolerant, but it will benefit from occasional deep watering during extreme dry periods.
Pest control: Watch for aphids, whitefly, scale, and spittlebugs. Treat light infestations with a firm spray of water or insecticidal soap, and improve airflow around the plant to reduce pest pressure.
Disease management: Rosemary can be affected by root rot, powdery mildew, and leaf spot, particularly in damp or poorly drained conditions. Signs include yellowing foliage, wilting, blackened roots, white powdery growth, or spotted leaves. Improve drainage, avoid overwatering, remove affected growth, and use an appropriate fungicide if disease persists.
