Rhododendron Pawhuska
Rhododendron Pawhuska is an evergreen shrub that prefers dappled shade and has large, glossy foliage. It produces full trusses of large, bright white flowers with a small gold eye in the spring. The plant is frost tolerant and prefers partial shade, as well as well-drained and fertile soil that is acidic in nature. It is recommended to water and mulch the plant in the summer and to prune it after flowering. 2m at maturity.
Trimming: Prune Rhododendron 'Pawhuska' immediately after flowering to maintain its shape and encourage new growth. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches to improve air circulation and overall plant health.
Deadheading: Deadhead spent flowers by pinching them off just below the flower head. This encourages more vigorous growth and prevents the plant from expending energy on seed production.
Fertilising: Apply a specialised rhododendron or azalea fertiliser in early spring. Avoid fertilising after midsummer to prevent new growth that might not harden before winter.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods. Rhododendrons prefer well-drained, acidic soil. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.
Pest Control: Monitor for common pests such as lace bugs, spider mites, and aphids. If infestations occur, treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Encourage beneficial insects to help keep pest populations in check.
Disease Management: Watch for signs of root rot, particularly in poorly drained soils. Ensure good drainage and avoid overwatering. If fungal diseases such as powdery mildew or leaf spot appear, treat with an appropriate fungicide and improve air circulation around the plant.
