Rhododendron Helene Schiffner
A beautiful evergreen rhododendron producing large clusters of soft pink flowers with delicate markings through Spring. Its lush dark green foliage provides an attractive backdrop to the abundant flowering display, creating a colourful feature in shaded garden areas. This variety is admired for its reliable performance and compact, tidy growth habit.
Well suited to woodland gardens, cottage gardens, and shaded borders. Excellent as a feature shrub, in mixed plantings, or mass planted for seasonal colour.
Prefers a partly shaded position with moist, well-drained, acidic soil enriched with organic matter. Protect from strong afternoon sun and drying winds. Space approximately 1.5–2m apart for best development.
Mature Size: Approximately 1.8m high x 1.5m wide.
Trimming: Prune lightly after flowering to maintain a tidy shape and remove any dead, weak or damaged branches.
Deadheading: Remove spent flower heads carefully to keep the plant neat and encourage strong growth.
Fertilising: Feed in spring with a fertiliser formulated for acid-loving plants to support healthy foliage and flowering.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist during establishment and water during extended dry periods, ensuring good drainage.
Pest Control: Check for aphids, scale insects and vine weevil damage. Treat with insecticidal soap or an appropriate insecticide if needed.
Disease Management: Watch for leaf spot, powdery mildew and root rot. Signs include spotted leaves, white powdery growth, wilting or yellowing foliage. Improve airflow, avoid waterlogged soil and apply a suitable fungicide where required.
