Polygala Petite Butterfly

Polygala Petite Butterfly. An evergreen shrub that produces beautiful, long-lasting, purple-violet flowers during summer and into autumn, resembling small, sweet pea-like flowers. Grows well in both full sun or partial shade and requires well-drained, fertile soils. Ideal for rockeries or mixed borders and may be grown in containers. Tolerates drought and coastal conditions.

Trimming: Trim Polygala 'Petite Butterfly' in early spring to maintain its compact shape and encourage new growth. Lightly prune after the main flowering period to promote a tidy appearance and potentially stimulate additional flowering.

Deadheading: Regularly deadhead spent flowers to prolong the flowering period and keep the plant looking fresh.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support vigorous growth and abundant flowering. An additional application in mid-summer can help maintain plant health.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Once established, Polygala 'Petite Butterfly' is relatively drought-tolerant but benefits from regular watering, especially during dry periods.

Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant, but monitor for aphids and spider mites. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Regularly inspect the plant for early signs of pests.

Disease Management: Polygala 'Petite Butterfly' is generally disease-resistant. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal issues. Avoid waterlogging by ensuring proper soil drainage. If you notice signs of fungal diseases, such as leaf spots or mildew, remove affected parts and treat with a suitable fungicide.
