Hydrangea Miss Belgium

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Miss Belgium', a Mophead Hydrangea, is a stunning variety of hydrangea known for its large, round clusters of early flowers that are either deep pink or rich blue, depending on the acidity of the soil. You will see blue or purple flower heads in acid soils and a lovely deep pink in alkaline soils. In New Zealand, our soils are mostly acidic resulting in blue flowers. 

'Miss Belgium' is a deciduous shrub that blooms from summer through fall, offering a long season of vibrant colour and interest making them perfect for a traditional cottage garden, where they can be mixed with other flowering plants. They look great planted en mass as a border and are also a great choice for coastal gardens, due to their tolerance of sea spray. This smaller variety of Hydrandea can also be great in pots.

Just remember, hydrangeas prefer well-drained soil and do best with some shade, especially in the afternoon, so they should be placed accordingly in the garden.
