Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Fifth Dimension
Notify MeHibiscus rosa-sinensis Fifth Dimension is a striking evergreen shrub featuring large, ruffled flowers in a blend of orange, yellow, and pink tones with a deep red centre. Flowering from spring through to autumn, its vivid, multicoloured blooms add strong tropical impact to borders, feature planting, or large containers.
Plant in full sun with rich, free-draining soil. Water regularly and apply fertiliser during the growing season to support ongoing flowering. Protect from frost and cold winds. Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and encourage fresh growth. Space plants 1 to 1.5 metres apart for hedging or individual display.
Grows to around 2 to 3 metres tall and 1.5 to 2 metres wide.
Trimming: Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the plant and promote fresh, vigorous growth. Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a neat form and encourage additional flowering.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to support continuous flowering and keep the plant looking tidy.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in early spring. During the flowering season, feed every two to four weeks with a high-potassium liquid fertiliser to support strong flowering and healthy foliage.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment and in dry or hot conditions. Keep soil consistently moist but well drained. Avoid overwatering or allowing the soil to dry out completely.
Pest Control: Monitor for aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies, especially on new growth. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Disease Management: Ensure good airflow and avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of fungal diseases such as leaf spot. Remove any yellowing or spotted leaves promptly and use well-draining soil to prevent root issues.
