Hibiscus Leopoldii

Hibiscus syriacus Leopoldii, a Rose of Sharon variety, is a captivating deciduous shrub that stands about 2.5m tall, making a striking statement with its double, very pale pink flowers adorned with dark red centres and veins. These flowers create a stunning display from late summer to mid-autumn, offering a prolonged period of visual interest. The shrub's foliage consists of three-lobed, green leaves that start very pale and transition to a darker shade as the warmer months progress, adding to the plant's overall beauty and charm.

Known for its easy care and hardiness, Leopoldii prefers full sun and well-drained soil to achieve optimal flowering, with lush growth being more pronounced in richer soils. Only a little post-flowering pruning or thinning of the branches is essential for maintaining its shape and encouraging future growth. With an expected growth of 3m in height and 1m in width in average New Zealand conditions over 5 to 10 years, it is ideal for a variety of garden styles, including cottage and informal gardens, city and courtyard gardens, and makes a low-maintenance addition to flower borders and beds as well as wall side borders.
