Gardenia Four Seasons

Gardenia Four Seasons, or Gardenia jasminoides Four Seasons, is a captivating evergreen shrub renowned for its continuous display of fragrant white flowers and glossy, dark green leaves. This variety lives up to its name by blooming multiple times throughout the year, filling the garden with its intoxicating scent and classic beauty. The compact form and lush foliage make it an excellent choice for adding elegance to any landscape.

In the garden, Gardenia Four Seasons is perfect for use as a specimen plant, in mixed borders, or as a fragrant hedge. It thrives in partial to full shade, making it ideal for brightening up shaded areas of the garden. This gardenia prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil that remains consistently moist but not waterlogged. Regular feeding with a balanced, acidic fertiliser will help maintain its vibrant foliage and abundant flowering.

When planting Gardenia Four Seasons, space the plants about 60-90 centimetres apart to allow for their mature size and ensure good air circulation. Mature plants typically reach a height of 60-90 centimetres with a similar spread, forming a rounded, bushy shape. This manageable size makes it suitable for smaller gardens or as a striking container plant on patios and verandas. With its continuous blooms and lovely scent, Gardenia Four Seasons brings year-round charm and sophistication to any garden.

Trimming: Prune Gardenia Four Seasons after the main flowering period, usually in late summer. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches to encourage new growth and maintain the plant's shape. Avoid heavy pruning, as this can reduce flowering.

Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to encourage continuous flowering and keep the plant looking tidy.

Fertilising: Feed in early spring with an acid-loving plant fertiliser to support healthy growth and prolific flowering. Repeat fertilisation every 6-8 weeks during the growing season.

Watering: Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Gardenia Four Seasons prefers moist, well-drained soil. Increase watering during hot, dry periods, but avoid allowing the soil to dry out completely.

Pest Control: Monitor for common pests such as aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil promptly. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to help prevent pest issues.

Disease Management: Watch for signs of fungal diseases such as powdery mildew and root rot. Improve air circulation and avoid overhead watering to minimise the risk. Ensure the soil has good drainage to prevent root rot. Remove any affected plant parts and apply a fungicide if necessary to control disease spread.
