Erica Vivellii

Erica Vivellii is a charming evergreen shrub also known as Heather and renowned for its abundant flowers and fine foliage. From winter into early spring, it produces masses of small, bell-shaped, deep carmine-pink flowers that cover the plant, creating a striking display during the cooler months. The needle-like, bronzy-red leaves provide a lovely contrast to the vibrant flowers and maintain interest throughout the year.

Perfect for a variety of styles, including rock gardens, cottage gardens, and heather gardens. It thrives in full sun to partial shade, preferring well-drained, acidic soils. This hardy plant is ideal for borders, containers, and mass plantings, where it can provide vibrant winter colour and texture.

Space the plants about 30 to 45 cm apart to allow their compact, mounding form to develop fully. Mature Erica Vivellii plants typically reach a height of 30 to 45 cm and a spread of about 60 cm.

Trimming: Prune Erica Vivellii lightly after flowering to maintain its shape and encourage bushier growth. Avoid cutting into old wood as this can hinder new growth.

Deadheading: Remove spent flowers to tidy up the plant and potentially extend the flowering period.

Fertilising: Feed Erica Vivellii with an acid-loving plant fertiliser in early spring and mid-summer. Avoid over-fertilising, as this can damage the plant.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and in prolonged dry periods. Ensure the soil is well-drained to prevent root rot.

Pest Control: Watch out for aphids and spider mites. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Disease Management: Be vigilant for signs of root rot, such as yellowing leaves and poor growth. Ensure proper drainage and reduce watering if root rot is suspected.
