Camellia 'Blizzard' is a compact, evergreen shrub known for its masses of small, single white flowers that appear from late autumn into winter. The flowers are simple and clean, standing out against glossy, dark green foliage, and are attractive to pollinators. With a naturally dense and upright habit reaching around 1.5 to 2 metres high and 1 to 1.5 metres wide, it suits woodland, formal, coastal, and low-maintenance garden styles, as well as containers.

Plant in partial shade with acidic, free-draining, humus-rich soil. Protect from harsh afternoon sun and strong drying winds. Space plants 1 to 1.5 metres apart for hedging or mass planting. Mulch annually and water during dry spells. Prune lightly after flowering if needed to shape. A hardy, neat-growing camellia that adds crisp seasonal colour during the cooler months.

Trimming: Prune lightly after flowering to shape the plant and remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Avoid heavy pruning, as Camellia ‘Blizzard’ has a naturally tidy habit. Late spring is ideal for pruning, just after the flowering period ends.

Deadheading: Remove spent flowers to tidy the plant and prevent fungal issues. This also encourages fresh flower bud development for the following season.

Fertilising: Feed in early spring with an acid-loving, slow-release fertiliser. A second light application in mid-summer can support healthy foliage and bud development. Avoid feeding in late autumn to prevent soft growth before winter.

Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, water deeply during dry spells, especially in late summer when buds are forming. Prefers moist, acidic, free-draining soil with mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Pest Control: Watch for aphids, scale insects, and tea mite - treat early with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil. Check undersides of leaves regularly.

Disease Management: Ensure good airflow to prevent petal blight and leaf spot. Avoid overhead watering and remove any fallen or diseased flowers and leaves. Maintain slightly acidic, well-drained soil to support long-term health.
