Brunfelsia undulata White Caps
Notify MeBrunfelsia undulata White Caps is an evergreen shrub prized for its fragrant, pure white flowers with gently ruffled petals that appear from late spring through summer. Set against glossy green foliage, the flowers bring a soft brightness and perfume to shaded areas, making it a beautiful choice for sheltered gardens.
Ideal for subtropical, cottage, and scented gardens, Brunfelsia White Caps suits borders, feature planting, or large containers in protected spots. It performs best in part shade with moist, well-draining soil and appreciates regular feeding during the flowering season. Space approximately 1 to 1.5 metres apart in garden beds.
Forms a rounded, medium-sized shrub reaching around 1.5 to 2 metres high and wide.
Trimming: Lightly prune after flowering to shape the plant and promote bushy growth. Remove any dead or damaged wood as needed. A harder prune can be done in early spring to rejuvenate older plants.
Deadheading: Recommended. Remove spent flowers to tidy the plant and encourage continued flowering.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced fertiliser every 4 to 6 weeks during the growing season. Use a formulation suitable for flowering shrubs to support strong bloom production and healthy foliage.
Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, particularly during the warmer months and while the plant is establishing. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely, but ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogging.
Pest Control: Monitor for aphids, mealybugs and spider mites. These pests may cluster on new growth or under leaves. Treat infestations with neem oil or insecticidal soap as needed.
Disease Management: Root rot may occur in poorly drained soils. Symptoms include yellowing leaves and reduced vigour. Improve drainage and avoid overwatering. Leaf spot and mildew can also appear in humid conditions - remove affected foliage and improve airflow around the plant.
