Azalea Paradise Radiance is an evergreen azalea bearing bright cerise hose-in-hose flowers. The double-layered blooms, where one flower sits inside another, create a full, layered effect across the plant in spring. It grows to around 1 to 1.5m high and wide, forming a rounded, tidy shrub with a reliable annual display.
This azalea fits well into a cottage garden, a Japanese-style planting, or a mixed shrub border. Plant several together for a bold block of colour, or use a single specimen to anchor a shaded bed. The bright cerise tone pairs well with white or soft pink flowering shrubs nearby.
Grow Paradise Radiance in part shade or morning sun with afternoon shade. It prefers free-draining, acidic soil enriched with compost. Mulch around the base to keep the shallow roots cool and retain moisture. Avoid exposed, dry positions and heavy soils that hold water.
Trim lightly after flowering and feed in spring with an azalea and camellia fertiliser. Water regularly through the first summer and during dry spells. Like all azaleas and rhododendrons, this plant is toxic to cats, dogs, and horses if eaten, so take care in pet households.
Trimming: Trim lightly straight after flowering in late spring to keep the plant compact and well shaped. Azaleas flower on old wood, so avoid cutting back hard. Remove any dead or crossing stems at the same time.
Deadheading: Deadheading is not essential. You can remove spent blooms by hand to tidy the plant, but leaving them does no harm to its health or next season's flowering.
Fertilising: Feed in spring with a fertiliser formulated for azaleas, camellias, and rhododendrons. A light second application after flowering supports strong new growth. Avoid over-feeding, as the shallow roots are sensitive to excess nutrients.
Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, not waterlogged. Water deeply and consistently through summer and during any dry spells. A layer of mulch helps retain moisture and protects the shallow root system.
Pest Control: Watch for aphids, thrips, two-spotted mite, and scale insects. Check leaf undersides regularly and treat early with a suitable insecticide or horticultural oil to prevent populations building.
Disease Management: Free-draining soil and good airflow prevent most problems. Avoid wet or compacted ground, which encourages Phytophthora root rot. Clear fallen leaves and spent flowers regularly. In still, humid conditions, watch for powdery mildew and improve airflow where possible. Pale swollen leaf galls may appear occasionally; pick them off and bin them.
