Azalea Bridal Bouquet
Azalea Bridal Bouquet is a compact, evergreen shrub prized for its abundant white, semi-double flowers that appear in mid to late spring. The blossoms have a soft, ruffled texture and a subtle fragrance, creating a fresh and refined display against the backdrop of glossy, deep-green foliage. This cultivar is well-suited to smaller garden spaces, where its clean white flowering offers a gentle contrast to bolder plantings.
Ideal for cottage, woodland and Japanese-style gardens, or as a feature in shaded borders and containers. Prefers dappled light to part shade, in acidic, free-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Mulch annually and water regularly during dry periods, especially while establishing.
Grows to around 80cm high and wide, forming a rounded, tidy shrub at maturity.
Trimming: Lightly prune after flowering to maintain its rounded shape and remove any leggy or damaged growth. Avoid heavy pruning, as azaleas flower on old wood.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers by hand to tidy the plant and direct energy into growth and next season’s buds. Be gentle to avoid damaging developing shoots beneath.
Fertilising: Apply a fertiliser formulated for acid-loving plants in early spring and again after flowering. Avoid overfeeding, which can reduce flowering and lead to excessive foliage.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist during establishment and in dry spells. Azaleas have shallow roots and benefit from regular watering, especially in hot or windy conditions.
Pest Control: Watch for lace bugs and thrips, which may cause stippling or leaf discolouration. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil if infestations occur.
Disease Management: Susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soils. Ensure good drainage and avoid overwatering. Mulch annually with pine bark or leaf mould to retain moisture and maintain soil acidity, keeping mulch clear of the stems to prevent fungal issues.
