Azalea Autumn Lily
Azalea Autumn Lily is a reblooming evergreen azalea that produces elegant white flowers with occasional single purple lines. Flowering in Spring and again in Autumn, this variety brings a soft, luminous touch to shaded spaces. Its fine-textured, dark green foliage remains attractive throughout the year.
Ideal for foundation plantings, shaded borders, and containers, Autumn Lily performs best in part shade with moist, well-drained, acidic soil. It benefits from regular watering and shelter from harsh afternoon sun. Space 60–80cm apart for a full, rounded habit.
Reaches around 90cm tall and 90cm wide at maturity, forming a neat, flowering shrub with reliable repeat colour and year-round structure.
Trimming: Lightly prune just after flowering to maintain shape and remove any dead or straggly growth. Avoid hard pruning, as azaleas flower on old wood.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers by hand to tidy the plant and encourage better flowering the following season.
Fertilising: Use an acid-loving plant fertiliser in early spring and again after flowering. Avoid overfeeding, as this can damage roots.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during establishment and dry periods. Azaleas prefer cool, moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Mulch annually to retain moisture and regulate temperature.
Pest Control: Watch for lace bugs, thrips, and spider mites—especially in warm, dry weather. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.
Disease Management: Susceptible to petal blight and root rot. Remove affected flowers or foliage promptly, and ensure good drainage and airflow. Avoid overhead watering to help prevent fungal issues.
