Flowering from spring through to autumn, this graceful shrub brings warmth and charm to the garden with its delicate yet striking display.
Perfect for pots, hanging baskets, or as a feature in cottage, subtropical, or Mediterranean gardens. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil with regular moisture. Space plants approximately 50 cm apart to allow for its naturally bushy growth habit.
At maturity, Abutilon White Gold reaches around 50–70 cm in height and width, making it an excellent choice for smaller spaces or patio displays. Regular pruning and deadheading will encourage a tidy shape and prolonged flowering.
Trimming: Prune Abutilon in early spring to maintain shape and encourage healthy growth. Remove any dead or damaged branches, and lightly trim throughout the growing season if needed.
Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to prolong flowering and keep the plant tidy.
Fertilising: Feed with a balanced, liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during the growing season to support vigorous growth and flowering. Reduce feeding in winter.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply during dry periods, particularly in hot weather or for container-grown plants.
Pest Control: Check for common pests like aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil to manage infestations.
Disease Management: Abutilon may be prone to powdery mildew and rust in humid conditions. Ensure good air circulation, avoid overhead watering, and treat with fungicide if necessary. Remove and dispose of affected leaves promptly.
