Ideal for mixed borders, large containers, or as a feature plant in cottage, subtropical, or Mediterranean gardens. Abutilon Voodoo thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Space plants about 1 metre apart to allow for its naturally bushy habit.
At maturity, Abutilon Voodoo can grow to 1.5–2 metres in height and width, making it a standout shrub for larger spaces. Light pruning after flowering will encourage a more compact shape and continuous flowering.
Trimming: Prune Abutilon in early spring to maintain shape and encourage healthy growth. Remove any dead or damaged branches, and lightly trim throughout the growing season if needed.
Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to prolong flowering and keep the plant tidy.
Fertilising: Feed with a balanced, liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during the growing season to support vigorous growth and flowering. Reduce feeding in winter.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply during dry periods, particularly in hot weather or for container-grown plants.
Pest Control: Check for common pests like aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil to manage infestations.
Disease Management: Abutilon may be prone to powdery mildew and rust in humid conditions. Ensure good air circulation, avoid overhead watering, and treat with fungicide if necessary. Remove and dispose of affected leaves promptly.
