Abelia grandiflora also known as Glossy Albelia, is a graceful, semi-evergreen shrub that captivates with its year-round appeal, featuring delicate, trumpet-shaped, white to light pink flowers that bloom profusely from late spring until the onset of autumn. The blossoms emit a soft, sweet fragrance that attracts butterflies. Arching branches bear small, glossy, dark green leaves that transition to a bronze or burgundy hue in the cooler autumn months, contributing visual interest across seasons.

Abelia grandiflora is versatile in landscape design. It is well-suited for creating attractive hedges, and borders, or even serving as a charming focal point when planted individually.

Incredibly hardy and forgiving. This shrub will grow in full baking sun, on most soils once established, and is dry tolerant and frost hardy. Pruning, preferably done in late winter or early spring, helps maintain its shape, health, and vigour.

Grows up to approximately 3 x 3 metres.

Trimming: Abelia benefits from annual trimming in late winter or early spring. Remove dead or weak branches to encourage healthy growth. For hedges, lightly prune throughout the growing season to maintain shape.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring to support healthy foliage and flowering. Avoid over-fertilising, which may reduce flowering.

Watering: Water deeply during the establishment phase and in prolonged dry periods. Abelia is generally drought-tolerant once established.

Pest Control: Check for aphids and scale insects, especially during warmer months. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.

Disease Management: Abelia is relatively disease-resistant but may experience powdery mildew in humid conditions. Ensure good air circulation and remove affected leaves promptly. Use fungicides if the problem persists.
