Rose Princess Anne

Rosa 'Princess Anne' is a striking English shrub rose bred by David Austin, distinguished by its deep pink flowers with a hint of magenta and a medium tea-rose fragrance. The flowers are densely petalled and open in a slightly cupped form, appearing in generous clusters from late spring through to autumn. Its glossy, dark green foliage and upright, bushy habit make it a standout in any planting scheme.

Suitable for borders, hedging, or container planting. Complements formal, cottage, and contemporary garden styles.

Performs best in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. Plant in a sheltered location and space approximately 80–100 cm apart to accommodate its dense growth.

Mature size: Reaches around 1–1.2 metres tall and 80–90 cm wide, forming a compact, upright shrub.

Trimming: Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the shrub and encourage vigorous growth. Remove any dead, weak, or crossing stems, and reduce flowering stems by about one-third. Maintain an open structure for airflow.

Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers throughout the flowering season to promote repeat flowering and maintain a neat appearance.

Fertilising: Feed with a balanced rose fertiliser in early spring as growth begins, and again after the first major flush. Avoid late-season feeding to prevent frost-tender growth.

Watering: Water deeply during extended dry periods, especially while establishing. Ensure good drainage and avoid wetting the foliage.

Pest Control: Monitor for aphids, thrips, and rose slugs. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil if infestations develop, and encourage beneficial insects where possible.

Disease Management: Generally healthy, but watch for signs of black spot or mildew in damp conditions. Prune for good airflow, remove any affected foliage, and apply a preventative fungicide if needed.
