Rosa 'Olivia Rose Austin' is a standout English shrub rose bred by David Austin, prized for its soft pink, fully double flowers with a strong, fruity fragrance. The rosette-shaped flowers appear early in the season and continue in flushes through to autumn. This variety is known for its exceptional disease resistance, healthy foliage, and balanced, rounded growth habit.
Ideal for borders, rose gardens, or as a feature in large containers. Complements cottage, formal, and romantic garden styles.
Thrives in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. Position in a sheltered spot and space plants 90–100 cm apart to allow for natural spreading.
Mature size: Reaches around 1.2 metres tall and wide, forming a well-rounded, bushy shrub.
Trimming: Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the shrub and remove any dead or weak stems. Cut back flowering stems by about one-third to encourage strong, healthy growth. Maintain an open centre to support good airflow.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly during the flowering season to encourage repeat flowering and keep the plant tidy.
Fertilising: Feed with a balanced rose fertiliser in early spring as new growth emerges, and again after the first flush of flowers. Avoid fertilising beyond late summer.
Watering: Water deeply during dry spells, especially in the first year after planting. Ensure soil remains moist but well-drained, and avoid wetting foliage.
Pest Control: Watch for aphids, rose slugs, and thrips on young shoots and buds. Treat promptly using insecticidal soap or neem oil if necessary.
Disease Management: Generally healthy, but monitor for black spot and powdery mildew in humid conditions. Remove any affected leaves, improve air circulation with thoughtful pruning, and apply a preventative fungicide if needed.
