Rose Lichfield Angel
Rosa 'Lichfield Angel' is a graceful English shrub rose developed by David Austin, producing creamy-white flowers with a soft peach blush at the centre. The rounded, rosette-shaped flowers are lightly scented and appear in abundance from late spring through to autumn. This variety is known for its strong growth, upright form, and reliable repeat flowering.
A versatile choice for mixed borders, rose gardens, or as a flowering hedge. Complements cottage, formal, and romantic garden styles.
Thrives in full sun with well-drained, fertile soil. Plant in a sheltered position and space approximately 1–1.2 metres apart to accommodate its spreading habit.
Mature size: Reaches around 1.2–1.5 metres tall and wide, forming a full, rounded shrub.
Trimming: Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and encourage healthy new growth. Remove dead, weak, or crossing stems. For shrub forms, aim to create an open, balanced framework.
Deadheading: Regularly deadhead spent flowers during the flowering season to encourage repeat flowering and a tidy appearance.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced rose fertiliser in early spring as growth begins, then again after the first major flush of flowers. Avoid feeding after late summer.
Watering: Water deeply during prolonged dry spells, especially while the plant is establishing. Ensure soil is well-draining and avoid overhead watering to prevent disease.
Pest Control: Look out for aphids and rose slugs on new growth. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil as needed. Encourage beneficial insects to help manage pests naturally.
Disease Management: May be prone to black spot and mildew in humid conditions. Remove infected leaves and ensure good air circulation through proper pruning. Apply a preventative fungicide if outbreaks occur.
