Rose Kaikoura
Rosa 'Kaikoura' is a standout Patio rose bred in New Zealand, prized for its rich coral-orange flowers that appear in generous clusters from late spring through to autumn. The lightly scented, semi-double flowers contrast beautifully with its deep green foliage, and the plant offers excellent repeat flowering and disease resistance throughout the season.
Perfect for adding vibrant colour to borders, rose beds, or container plantings. Complements coastal, contemporary, and cottage-style gardens.
Prefers a sunny position in well-drained, fertile soil. Space plants approximately 60–75 cm apart to allow for airflow and healthy growth.
Mature size: Grows to about 1 metre tall and 80 cm wide, forming a tidy, bushy shrub.
Trimming: Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the plant and promote vigorous new growth. Remove any dead, damaged, or spindly stems. Maintain an open structure to enhance airflow.
Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers throughout the flowering season to encourage continual flowering and keep the plant looking tidy.
Fertilising: Feed with a balanced rose fertiliser in early spring and again after the first flush of flowers. Avoid late-season feeding to prevent soft growth vulnerable to frost.
Watering: Ensure consistent watering during dry periods, especially while establishing. Water deeply to encourage strong root development, avoiding wetting the foliage.
Pest Control: Monitor for aphids, thrips, and caterpillars on new growth and buds. Treat promptly using insecticidal soap or neem oil if infestations occur.
Disease Management: Susceptible to black spot and powdery mildew in damp conditions. Remove and dispose of affected leaves, improve airflow with proper pruning, and apply a fungicide preventatively if needed.
