Poplar Lombardy - Populus nigra - is a fast-growing tree that can reach heights of up to 30m. Its leaves are green and triangular in shape, and it produces small, cottony seeds in the spring. The tree is often used for ornamental purposes, as well as for windbreaks, erosion control and as a source of wood. However, it is not recommended as a street tree as it tends to have invasive roots and a lot of falling debris. Plant at 1m spacings for a single-row shelter. Deciduous. Hardy.
