Viola Royal Robe
Notify MeViola Royal Robe is a charming perennial with deep purple, velvety flowers adorned with a soft yellow eye. The compact growth habit and continuous flowering make it a favourite for adding splashes of rich colour to the garden throughout the growing season.
Perfect for edging, containers, and filling gaps in borders. Also well-suited to cottage-style gardens and as ground cover under taller plants. Thrives in full sun to partial shade with moist, well-drained soil. Performs well in cooler climates and can bloom over an extended period if deadheaded regularly.
Space plants 15–20 cm apart for a lush, carpet-like effect. Grows to about 15–20 cm tall, forming a low, spreading mound of vibrant colour.
Trimming: Trim back spent growth after flowering to encourage fresh blooms and tidy the plant.
Deadheading: Regularly remove faded flowers to extend the flowering season.
Fertilising: Feed with a high-potash fertiliser every few weeks during the flowering period to encourage continuous flowering.
Watering: Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, particularly during dry periods.
Pest Control: Watch for aphids and slugs, particularly on young plants; treat aphids with insecticidal soap and use slug traps as needed.
Disease Management: Monitor for powdery mildew or fungal spots; remove affected foliage promptly and ensure good air circulation. Treat with a fungicide if necessary.
