Notify MeVerbena Superbena Sparkling Rose is a vibrant, trailing perennial often grown as an annual, known for its striking two-tone flowers-soft rose-pink petals with bold white centres-that bloom continuously from spring to autumn. With excellent disease resistance and a self-cleaning habit, it provides long-lasting colour in containers, hanging baskets, and borders. Reaching approximately 20-30 cm high and trailing or spreading up to 60 cm wide, it suits cottage, coastal, and modern garden styles.
Plant in full sun with well-draining soil. Space plants 30-40 cm apart for good airflow and spread. Drought-tolerant once established and low-maintenance, requiring no deadheading. Light trimming mid-season can refresh growth and encourage further flowering. Protect from frost and feed regularly for best results.
Trimming: Lightly trim or pinch back stems to encourage compact growth and more blooms. If the plant becomes leggy in midsummer, cut it back by about one-third to rejuvenate and stimulate fresh flowering.
Deadheading: Not required, as this variety is self-cleaning. However, occasional removal of spent blooms can help keep the plant tidy.
Fertilising: Feed every 1-2 weeks during the growing season with a high-potassium liquid fertiliser (e.g. tomato feed), especially in containers or hanging baskets, to support continuous flowering.
Watering: Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist but well-drained. Avoid both waterlogging and allowing the soil to dry out completely, particularly in hot or windy conditions.
Pest Control: Monitor for aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Disease Management: Provide good airflow and avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of powdery mildew and other fungal issues. Remove any yellowing or diseased foliage promptly and ensure well-drained soil to prevent root rot.
