Thymus praecox Albiflorus, commonly known as White Creeping Thyme, is a low-growing, evergreen thyme that forms a dense mat of tiny aromatic green foliage. In late Spring and Summer, it is covered with masses of small white flowers that attract bees and other beneficial pollinators. Tough and drought tolerant once established, it is an excellent choice for filling gaps between paving stones, edging pathways, or creating a fragrant living carpet.

Ideal as a ground cover, between pavers, along pathways, in rock gardens, gravel gardens, and alpine plantings. Suits Mediterranean, cottage, coastal, and informal gardens.

Thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Prefers dry to moderately moist conditions and performs best where drainage is excellent. Space plants approximately 30–40cm apart.

Mature size: Forms a dense mat approximately 5–10cm high and spreads 30–60cm wide.

Trimming: Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a dense, compact habit and prevent the plant from becoming woody. Remove any dead, damaged, or straggly growth as needed, avoiding cutting back into old woody stems.

Deadheading: Deadheading is not essential, but removing spent flower heads after flowering can improve the plant's appearance and encourage fresh, tidy growth.

Fertilising: Thymus praecox 'Albiflorus' thrives in low-fertility soils and generally requires little feeding. If growth is poor, apply a light dressing of a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring. Avoid excessive fertiliser, which can reduce flowering and result in soft, lush growth.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase until the plant is well rooted. Once established, it is highly drought tolerant and only requires watering during prolonged dry periods.

Pest control: This thyme is rarely troubled by pests, but occasionally aphids or spider mites may appear during hot, dry weather. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap if necessary and maintain good plant health to minimise problems.

Disease management: Monitor for root rot, particularly in poorly drained soils, and occasional fungal diseases in damp, humid conditions. Signs include wilting, yellowing foliage, blackened stems, or dieback. Ensure excellent drainage, avoid overwatering, remove affected growth promptly, and apply a suitable fungicide if fungal issues persist.
