Sisyrinchium angustifolium 'Devon Skies', commonly known as Blue-Eyed Grass, is a charming perennial prized for its delicate, star-shaped, sky-blue flowers with vibrant yellow centres. Blooming profusely in late spring and early summer, the flowers emerge above neat, grass-like foliage, forming a compact and tidy clump. This low-maintenance plant is perfect for adding a touch of understated beauty to sunny spots, with its subtle flowers swaying gracefully in the breeze.

'Devon Skies' is ideal for rockeries, borders, or as an edging plant along pathways. Its petite size and tidy growth habit make it perfect for small gardens or containers, where its delicate flowers can be appreciated up close. Use it in cottage-style plantings, alpine gardens, or naturalistic settings where its soft blue tones harmonise beautifully with other sun-loving perennials like sedums and coreopsis. It’s also a wonderful choice for wildlife-friendly gardens, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

This Sisyrinchium thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained soil, tolerating sandy or rocky conditions. While it can handle occasional dry spells, it appreciates consistent moisture during its flowering season. Avoid overly wet or poorly drained soils to maintain its health and longevity.

Space plants 15–20 cm apart to create a dense yet airy planting, ensuring good airflow between clumps.
At maturity, Sisyrinchium angustifolium 'Devon Skies' grows to a height of 15–20 cm and spreads up to 20–30 cm. Its compact, grass-like foliage and dainty, sky-blue flowers make it a delightful addition to any sunny garden..

Trimming: Remove spent flower stems after flowering to encourage tidiness and potentially stimulate a second flush of blooms. Cut back old foliage in late autumn or early spring to allow fresh growth.

Deadheading: Regularly remove faded flowers to prolong the flowering period and prevent self-seeding if undesired.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support healthy growth and flowering. Sisyrinchium thrives in moderately fertile soils, so avoid over-fertilising.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and sparingly thereafter. Once established, it is drought-tolerant and prefers well-drained soil. Avoid waterlogged conditions.

Pest Control: Rarely affected by pests, but keep an eye out for slugs and snails, which can damage young shoots. Use traps or organic deterrents if necessary.

Disease Management: Generally disease-free. Ensure good drainage to avoid root rot and avoid overcrowding to maintain airflow around the plant.
