Sedum Cape Blanco
Notify MeSedum Cape Blanco is a low-growing, evergreen succulent with silvery-blue foliage that develops subtle pink tones in cooler weather. Its compact, spreading habit creates a dense mat, and in Summer, small yellow flowers appear above the foliage, adding a bright contrast to its muted tones. Drought-tolerant and easy-care, it’s ideal for adding texture and colour to dry, sunny areas.
Well-suited to rock gardens, coastal plantings, green roofs, or container displays, Sedum Cape Blanco thrives in full sun with free-draining soil. Once established, it requires minimal water. Space approximately 20-25 cm apart to allow for natural spreading and airflow.
Forms a low, trailing mat approximately 10 cm high and spreading up to 30 cm wide.
Trimming: Minimal trimming required. Remove any dead or damaged stems in late winter or early spring to maintain a tidy appearance. Gently prune back leggy growth if the plant becomes untidy.
Deadheading: Not necessary, but removing spent flower heads can improve the overall look of the plant.
Fertilising: Sedums generally require little feeding. Apply a light dose of low-nitrogen fertiliser in spring if growth appears poor, but avoid over-fertilising as it may reduce compactness.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, Cape Blanco is drought tolerant-only water during prolonged dry periods. Avoid overwatering, especially in containers.
Pest Control: Typically pest-free. Occasionally may attract aphids or slugs-remove by hand or treat with an appropriate method if needed.
Disease Management: Susceptible to root or stem rot in overly wet conditions. Ensure excellent drainage and avoid waterlogging. Remove any mushy or discoloured stems to prevent spread.
