Salvia Unplugged So Blue
Notify MeSalvia Unplugged So Blue is a compact, bushy perennial producing vivid true-blue flowers on dark stems from late spring through to autumn. Its long flowering season and neat habit make it perfect for borders, containers, pollinator-friendly gardens, and mixed plantings.
Plant in full sun with free-draining soil. Tolerates heat and light frost once established. Water regularly during dry periods and remove spent flower spikes to encourage continued flowering. Space plants 30 to 40 centimetres apart for best display and airflow.
Grows to around 40 to 50 centimetres tall and 40 centimetres wide.
Trimming: Lightly trim after each flowering flush to encourage bushier growth and continued flowering. In late winter or early spring, cut back more firmly to refresh the plant for the new season.
Deadheading: Remove spent flower spikes regularly to promote ongoing flowering and maintain a tidy appearance.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring. In poorer soils, supplement with a liquid feed every four to six weeks during the flowering season.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, it is moderately drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering during dry periods.
Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant. Check for aphids or whiteflies on young growth and treat with insecticidal soap if needed.
Disease Management: Ensure good airflow and avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal issues like powdery mildew. Use well-drained soil and remove any affected foliage promptly.
