Salvia Patio Sky Blue is a compact perennial with soft sky-blue flower spikes that bloom from late spring to autumn above aromatic green foliage. Its neat, mounding habit and continuous flowering attract bees and butterflies, making it perfect for adding long-lasting colour to smaller spaces or containers.
Ideal for borders, pots, and pollinator-friendly plantings, it suits cottage, Mediterranean, and contemporary gardens. Best grown in full sun with light, well-drained soil. Drought-tolerant once established and benefits from regular deadheading. Space 30–40 cm apart in groupings. Grows to 40–50 cm tall and wide, forming a tidy, colourful mound.
Trimming: Lightly trim after each flowering flush to encourage repeat flowering and maintain a compact shape. Cut back more firmly in late winter or early spring to promote fresh growth.
Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flower spikes to prolong flowering and keep the plant looking tidy.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. A liquid feed during peak flowering can boost performance, particularly in container-grown plants.
Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase. Once established, it is moderately drought-tolerant but benefits from consistent watering in hot, dry weather, especially in pots.
Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant, though aphids or whitefly may appear. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil if infestations develop.
Disease Management: Low risk of disease, but ensure good air circulation to prevent mildew. Avoid overhead watering, and remove any affected foliage if fungal issues arise.
