Peony Minnie Shaylor

Minnie Shaylor is a graceful herbaceous peony admired for its large, fully double flowers that open a soft blush pink and gradually fade to creamy white. The lightly fragrant flowers with golden centres add a touch of elegance and romance to the garden from late spring to early summer, standing proudly above rich green foliage.

Perfect for cottage, formal, and cut-flower gardens, Minnie Shaylor is ideal for borders, feature planting, or mass displays. It thrives in full sun to light shade with fertile, free-draining soil and benefits from a cool winter period to promote reliable flowering. Space approximately 80 cm to 1 metre apart for mature clumps.

Forms a rounded, bushy plant reaching around 80 to 90 cm high and 70 to 90 cm wide.

Trimming: Cut back flower stems after flowering to just above a healthy leaf. In late autumn, once the foliage has fully died back, cut all stems to ground level and clear away debris to reduce the risk of disease.

Deadheading: Recommended. Remove spent flowers promptly to keep the plant tidy and encourage strong root and bud development for the following season.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in early spring as new shoots appear. For best results, apply a second feed after flowering to support healthy root growth and future flowering.

Watering: Water deeply during dry spells, particularly while the plant is actively growing and flowering. Peonies prefer consistently moist, free-draining soil. Avoid overwatering or allowing water to pool around the crown.

Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Occasionally check for aphids or thrips on flower heads and young growth. Treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap if required.

Disease Management: Watch for botrytis blight, especially in wet or humid conditions. Remove and dispose of any blackened or rotting stems or foliage. Provide good airflow, avoid overhead watering and clear away dead leaves in autumn to help prevent fungal problems.
