Peony Felix Supreme
Notify MeFelix Supreme is a bold herbaceous peony admired for its large, fully double flowers in rich fuchsia-red tones with a subtle fragrance. Flowering in late spring to early summer, it delivers a vibrant splash of colour above sturdy stems and lush, deep green foliage, making it a standout feature in any garden or cut-flower display.
Ideal for cottage, formal, and perennial gardens, Felix Supreme is perfect for borders, mass planting, or as a striking focal point. It thrives in full sun to light shade with fertile, free-draining soil and benefits from a cool winter period to promote reliable flowering. Space approximately 80 cm to 1 metre apart for mature plantings.
Forms a rounded, bushy plant reaching around 80 to 90 cm high and 70 to 90 cm wide.
Trimming: Cut back flower stems after flowering to just above a healthy set of leaves. In late autumn, once the foliage has died back, cut all stems to ground level and remove plant debris to reduce the risk of overwintering disease.
Deadheading: Recommended. Remove spent flowers promptly to maintain a tidy appearance and support strong root and bud development for the next season.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in early spring as new shoots emerge. A second feed after flowering can encourage healthy root growth and improve flower production in the following year.
Watering: Water deeply during dry spells, especially while the plant is establishing and flowering. Peonies prefer moist, free-draining soil. Avoid overwatering or waterlogged conditions.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Occasionally monitor for aphids or thrips, particularly on developing flower heads. Treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap if needed.
Disease Management: Susceptible to botrytis blight in humid or damp conditions. Remove any blackened or soft stems and dispose of them. Provide good airflow, avoid overhead watering, and clear away dead foliage in autumn to help prevent fungal issues.
