Peony Fairy's Petticoat

Fairy’s Petticoat is a charming herbaceous peony known for its large, semi-double flowers of soft blush pink that fade to near white, revealing delicate ruffled edges and a gentle fragrance. Flowering in late spring to early summer, it adds a romantic, graceful presence to borders and seasonal displays.

Perfect for cottage, formal, and cut-flower gardens, Fairy’s Petticoat is ideal for feature planting, grouping in perennial beds, or creating a soft, layered effect in mixed borders. It thrives in full sun to light shade with fertile, free-draining soil and benefits from a cool winter period to encourage reliable flowering. Space approximately 80 cm to 1 metre apart for mature growth.

Forms a rounded, bushy plant reaching around 80 to 90 cm high and 70 to 90 cm wide.

Trimming: Cut back flower stems after flowering to just above a strong leaf to maintain a tidy habit. In late autumn, once the foliage has completely died down, cut all stems to ground level and remove debris to minimise disease risk.

Deadheading: Recommended. Remove spent flowers promptly to improve appearance and help the plant redirect energy into root and bud development.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in early spring as new growth emerges. A second application after flowering will support strong root growth and flower production for the following season.

Watering: Water deeply during dry periods, especially while the plant is flowering and actively growing. Ensure soil is moist but free-draining. Avoid overwatering and prolonged wet conditions around the crown.

Pest Control: Typically pest-free. Occasionally monitor for aphids or thrips on flower heads and young shoots. Use insecticidal soap if required.

Disease Management: Botrytis blight can occur in damp or humid conditions. Remove and destroy any affected foliage. Maintain good airflow around the plant, avoid overhead watering, and clear away dead leaves in autumn to reduce fungal risk.
