Peony Bowl of Cream

Bowl of Cream is a luxurious herbaceous peony known for its enormous, fully double white flowers with a soft, creamy glow. Flowering in late spring to early summer, the flowers are beautifully fragrant and held on strong, upright stems above lush, dark green foliage, making them a standout in both the garden and the vase.

Perfect for cottage, formal, and cut-flower gardens, Bowl of Cream is ideal for borders, feature planting, or massed displays. It thrives in full sun to light shade with fertile, free-draining soil and benefits from a cool winter period to ensure reliable flowering. Space approximately 80 cm to 1 metre apart for mature growth.

Forms a rounded, bushy plant reaching around 80 to 90 cm high and 70 to 90 cm wide.

Trimming: Cut back flower stems after flowering to just above a set of leaves to keep the plant tidy. In autumn, once the foliage has died down naturally, cut all stems to ground level and remove debris to prevent disease.

Deadheading: Recommended. Remove spent flowers promptly to maintain appearance and help the plant conserve energy for root and bud development.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in early spring as new shoots emerge. For best results, apply a second feed just after flowering to support strong root growth and next year’s buds.

Watering: Water deeply and regularly during dry periods, especially while flowering and establishing. Peonies prefer moist but well-drained soil. Avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root issues.

Pest Control: Generally low-maintenance. Occasionally check for aphids or thrips on buds. Treat with insecticidal soap if needed.

Disease Management: Watch for botrytis blight, particularly in wet or humid conditions. Remove any blackened or rotting stems and avoid overhead watering. Provide good airflow and clear away all foliage in autumn to reduce disease carryover.
