Notify MeLeucanthemum Daisy May is a compact, free-flowering perennial known for its classic white, daisy-like flowers with bright yellow centres that bloom abundantly from late spring through to early autumn. The clean, upright habit and deep green foliage provide a tidy backdrop for the cheerful blooms. Reaching approximately 30-40 cm high and 30-35 cm wide, it’s ideal for borders, containers, and cutting gardens, and suits cottage, coastal, and low-maintenance garden styles.
Thrives in full sun with well-draining, moderately fertile soil. Space plants 25-35 cm apart to promote airflow and healthy growth. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continual flowering. Drought-tolerant once established, but performs best with regular watering during prolonged dry periods. Cut back in late autumn to maintain a tidy appearance.
Trimming: Trim back stems after the first flush of flowers to encourage a tidy shape and stimulate further blooming. In late autumn, cut back spent growth to just above ground level.
Deadheading: Regularly deadhead faded flowers to prolong the flowering season and keep the plant looking fresh.
Fertilising: Feed every 4-6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced or high-potassium liquid fertiliser to support continuous flowering and robust growth.
Watering: Water consistently during establishment and during dry spells. ‘Daisy May’ prefers moist, free-draining soil-avoid both soggy conditions and allowing the soil to dry out completely.
Pest Control: Watch for aphids and thrips, especially during warmer months. Treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil if needed.
Disease Management: Ensure good airflow and avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of powdery mildew and fungal leaf spots. Remove and dispose of any diseased or yellowing foliage promptly. Divide clumps every few years to maintain plant health and vigour.
