Lavender 'Snow Princess' is a compact, evergreen shrub admired for its soft silvery-green foliage and delicate white to very pale lavender flower spikes that appear from late spring through summer. With its subtle colouring and classic lavender fragrance, it adds a refined touch to borders, containers, and low hedging. Typically growing to around 40-60 cm high and wide, it suits cottage, Mediterranean, and coastal garden styles.
Plant in full sun with free-draining soil. Drought-tolerant once established and well-suited to hot, dry locations. Space plants 30-40 cm apart for border plantings or compact hedging. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain a neat shape and encourage repeat flowering. Avoid heavy or water-retentive soils, especially in winter. A graceful, low-maintenance choice for adding fragrance and soft colour to sunny garden spaces.
Trimming: Lightly trim after each flowering flush to maintain a tidy, bushy shape and encourage further blooming. In late summer or early autumn, prune back by about one-third, taking care not to cut into old wood, which may not reshoot.
Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flower spikes to extend the flowering period and improve overall appearance.
Fertilising: Apply a light dose of balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Lavender thrives in lean soils, so avoid overfeeding, which can result in soft, leggy growth.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, Lavender ‘Snow Princess’ is drought-tolerant and prefers dry, free-draining soil. Avoid overwatering and ensure excellent drainage.
Pest Control: Typically pest-resistant, but monitor for aphids or spittlebugs on young stems. Treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil if necessary.
Disease Management: Provide full sun and good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases such as root rot or leaf spot. Avoid overhead watering, and remove any discoloured or dying foliage. Plant in well-drained soil and mulch lightly, keeping mulch clear of the crown.
