Lavender Blue Mountain

Lavandula angustifolia Blue Mountain is a compact variety of English Lavender producing striking, deep violet-blue flowers in the summer. Delightfully fragrant with that true Lavender fragrance we all love. Good for attracting bees to the garden. Cut back after flowering.

Perfect for formal and informal borders, cottage gardens, and Mediterranean-inspired landscapes. Its tidy growth habit makes it excellent for hedging, edging pathways, or softening garden structures.

Plant in a sunny location with well-drained soil, as it performs best in conditions that mimic its native Mediterranean habitat. It thrives in sandy or loamy soils and tolerates poorer soils as long as they are free-draining. This lavender requires minimal watering once established and does not tolerate waterlogged conditions.

Mature Height 60cm.

Trimming: Prune lightly after the first flowering to encourage a second flush of flowers and maintain a compact shape. In late summer or early autumn, trim back about one-third of the plant’s height to prevent it from becoming leggy.

Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to promote continuous flowering and prevent the plant from putting energy into seed production.

Fertilising: Lavender Blue Mountain prefers lean soil, so avoid heavy fertilisation. If necessary, apply a light dose of balanced fertiliser in early spring. Too much fertiliser can lead to excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowers.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase. Once established, Lavender Blue Mountain is drought-tolerant and should be watered sparingly. Ensure the soil is well-drained, as lavender does not tolerate waterlogged conditions.

Pest Control: Generally pest-free, but keep an eye out for aphids and spittlebugs. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil if necessary.

Disease Management: Lavender is susceptible to root rot if the soil is not well-drained. Ensure good drainage and avoid overwatering. If signs of fungal diseases such as leaf spot or mildew appear, remove affected parts and treat with a suitable fungicide. Good air circulation and planting in a sunny location can help prevent disease.
