Lavender Bandera Pink
Lavender Bandera Pink, commonly known as Spanish or Butterfly Lavender, is a compact French lavender variety prized for its soft pink flower heads topped with distinctive pale flags. Flowering from early Spring into Summer, it produces a dense flush of colour and emits a sweet, calming fragrance. Its compact size and tidy habit make it ideal for small spaces or decorative plantings.
Well-suited to edging, containers, rock gardens, and low borders. Complements cottage, Mediterranean, contemporary, and coastal garden styles.
Prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Tolerates dry conditions once established but benefits from occasional watering during prolonged dry spells. Space plants about 30 cm apart for a full yet compact display.
Grows to around 25–30 cm tall and wide, forming a dense, dome-shaped mound."
Trimming: Lightly trim after each flowering flush to maintain its compact, mounded form. Avoid cutting into woody stems. A gentle prune in late summer encourages dense regrowth.
Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flower spikes to prolong flowering and keep the plant tidy.
Fertilising: Apply a low-nitrogen, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Avoid overfeeding, as this can lead to leggy growth and reduced flowering.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment, then reduce frequency. Once established, Bandera Pink is drought-tolerant. Avoid overwatering—especially in cooler months—as this can lead to root issues.
Pest Control: Typically pest-free but may attract aphids on new growth. Treat with insecticidal soap if infestations appear.
Disease Management: Susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soils. Plant in free-draining soil and avoid overhead watering. Ensure good airflow around the plant to prevent fungal diseases. Remove any discoloured or damaged foliage promptly.
