Lampranthus Mauve Explosion
Notify MeLampranthus Mauve Explosion is a fast-spreading, drought-tolerant groundcover with vibrant mauve-purple flowers that appear in abundance from Spring through to early Autumn. Its fine, succulent foliage forms a dense mat that contrasts beautifully with the vivid flowering display, making it a standout in dry, sunny areas.
Ideal for coastal, Mediterranean, or rock gardens, Lampranthus Mauve Explosion is perfect for banks, borders, retaining walls, or container planting. It thrives in full sun with free-draining soil and is highly tolerant of dry conditions once established. Space approximately 30-40 cm apart to allow for natural spreading and coverage.
Forms a low, trailing mat approximately 20 cm high and spreading up to 60 cm wide.
Trimming: Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage dense growth. Remove any leggy or untidy stems as needed.
Deadheading: Regular deadheading is not essential but can improve appearance and promote additional flowering.
Fertilising: Apply a low-phosphorus, general-purpose fertiliser in early spring. Avoid over-fertilising, as this may reduce flowering.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, it is highly drought tolerant-only water during extended dry periods, particularly in sandy soils.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Monitor for mealybugs or aphids on new growth; treat with insecticidal soap if necessary.
Disease Management: Susceptible to root and stem rot in poorly drained soils. Ensure excellent drainage and avoid overwatering. Remove any affected stems promptly to prevent spread.
