Heuchera Northern Exposure Black
Notify MeHeuchera Northern Exposure Black is a hardy, clump-forming perennial with rich, dark foliage that shifts from deep burgundy to near-black throughout the year. Soft pink flowers appear on slender stems from late Spring through early Summer, offering a gentle contrast to the bold leaf colour. Bred for improved cold tolerance and long-term performance, it provides striking year-round interest in both garden beds and containers.
Well-suited to woodland, cottage, or modern gardens, Heuchera Northern Exposure Black is ideal for shaded borders, underplanting, or mixed containers. It prefers partial to full shade with moist, free-draining soil. Space approximately 35-40 cm apart to ensure healthy growth and airflow.
Forms a compact, mounded clump approximately 30 cm high and 40 cm wide.
Trimming: Remove any tatty or dead leaves throughout the year to keep the foliage neat. In late winter or early spring, trim back old growth to make way for fresh new leaves.
Deadheading: Snip off spent flower spikes to tidy the plant and encourage a potential second flush of flowers.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring. Avoid overfeeding, as excessive nutrients can reduce foliage colour intensity.
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during establishment. Once established, water during prolonged dry spells, especially in hot weather. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.
Pest Control: Watch for vine weevils, especially in containers. Look for notched leaf edges and apply nematodes or an appropriate insecticide if larvae are present.
Disease Management: Generally disease resistant, though crown rot can occur in overly wet conditions. Improve drainage and avoid waterlogging. Ensure adequate spacing for air movement to prevent fungal issues.
