Heuchera Lemon Marmalade
Heuchera Lemon Marmalade is a vibrant evergreen perennial valued for its heavily ruffled foliage in brilliant lime to golden-yellow tones that brighten shaded areas throughout the year. Slender stems of small cream-white flowers rise above the foliage from late spring into summer, adding delicate contrast and attracting pollinators. The vivid foliage colour is most intense when grown in bright, filtered light.
Garden uses: Ideal for borders, woodland plantings, underplanting trees and shrubs, containers and mixed perennial displays. It complements contemporary, cottage and woodland gardens.
Preferred garden area: Plant in partial shade or full shade, or in full sun where the soil remains consistently moist. Prefers fertile, well-drained soil with moderate moisture. Allow approximately 35–45 cm between plants.
Mature size: Forms a bright, rounded mound approximately 30–40 cm high and 45–50 cm wide.
Trimming: Remove tired or scorched leaves throughout the year to keep the plant tidy. In early spring, cut back any winter-damaged foliage to make way for fresh new growth.
Deadheading: Not essential, but removing spent flower spikes after blooming can improve appearance and may encourage a light repeat flush.
Fertilising: Feed in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser. In poor soils, a light liquid feed in mid-summer can help maintain vigour and leaf colour.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment and in dry spells. Heuchera ‘Lemon Marmalade’ prefers consistently moist, well-drained soil. Avoid waterlogging and drought stress.
Pest Control: Watch for vine weevils, particularly in containers-their larvae feed on roots. Use biological controls or approved insecticides if necessary.
Disease Management: Ensure good air circulation to reduce the risk of powdery mildew or crown rot. Avoid overhead watering and remove any discoloured or damaged foliage promptly. Plant in well-drained soil and mulch carefully, keeping it clear of the crown.
