Helleborus Ice & Roses Merlot is a stunning evergreen perennial known for its elegant, cup-shaped flowers in rich shades of deep burgundy. These flowers appear from late winter to early spring, providing a splash of colour when few other plants are in flower. The plant's leathery, dark green foliage adds texture and year-round interest to your garden. Helleborus Merlot is an excellent choice for adding early-season beauty and sophistication to your outdoor space.

Helleborus Merlot is perfect for use in shaded garden beds, borders, and woodland gardens. It thrives in partial to full shade, making it an ideal choice for those tricky, low-light areas. This plant prefers well-draining soil rich in organic matter and benefits from regular watering, especially during dry spells, to maintain consistent soil moisture.

For optimal growth, plant Helleborus Merlot 30 to 45 cm apart. This spacing allows the plants to grow healthily and ensures good air circulation, which helps prevent disease. At maturity, Helleborus Merlot reaches a height of about 30 to 45 cm and a similar spread, making it a compact yet striking addition to any garden.

Trimming: Trim back old leaves in late winter or early spring before new growth appears. This helps reduce the risk of disease and improves the appearance of the plant.

Deadheading: Remove spent flowers to encourage new flowering and maintain a tidy appearance. Cut the flower stems back to the base.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers which can lead to excessive leaf growth.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and in dry periods. Helleborus Ice n Roses prefers consistently moist, well-drained soil but avoid waterlogging.

Pest Control: Watch for common pests such as aphids, slugs, and snails. Use insecticidal soap for aphids and organic slug pellets or hand-pick to control slugs and snails.

Disease Management: Be vigilant for signs of leaf spot and downy mildew. Leaf spot appears as dark spots on leaves, and downy mildew as a white or greyish coating. Treat with appropriate fungicides and ensure good air circulation. Remove and dispose of any infected foliage to prevent the spread of disease.
