Notify MeHelleborus Ice N Roses Red is a striking perennial, that flowers prolifically from winter through to early spring with rich burgundy red flowers. They are large and outward-facing and are a delightful addition to any garden when many other plants are dormant. Evergreen and upright in habit, this hellebore adds year-round interest with its attractive foliage.
Ideal for woodland-style gardens or shaded borders, it thrives in semi-shade with well-drained, humus-rich soil. It is ideal for cottage, shade, and winter gardens, providing colour under trees or in containers. Space plants around 60 cm apart for an impactful display.
At maturity, this plant typically reaches a height of 60 cm with a spread of up to 100 cm, forming a dense, clump-forming habit that fills garden spaces beautifully.
Trimming: Trim back old leaves in late winter or early spring before new growth appears. This helps reduce the risk of disease and improves the appearance of the plant.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers to encourage new flowering and maintain a tidy appearance. Cut the flower stems back to the base.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers which can lead to excessive leaf growth.
Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and in dry periods. Helleborus Ice n Roses prefers consistently moist, well-drained soil but avoid waterlogging.
Pest Control: Watch for common pests such as aphids, slugs, and snails. Use insecticidal soap for aphids and organic slug pellets or hand-pick to control slugs and snails.
Disease Management: Be vigilant for signs of leaf spot and downy mildew. Leaf spot appears as dark spots on leaves, and downy mildew as a white or greyish coating. Treat with appropriate fungicides and ensure good air circulation. Remove and dispose of any infected foliage to prevent the spread of disease.
