Echinacea Pink Parasol

Echinacea 'Pink Parasol' is a hardy, clump-forming perennial known for its large, classic daisy-like flowers with soft rose-pink petals surrounding a prominent orange-brown cone. Flowering from mid-summer into early autumn, it brings long-lasting colour and is highly attractive to bees and butterflies. With sturdy, upright stems reaching around 80-100 cm high and 40-50 cm wide, it’s ideal for cottage, prairie, and pollinator-friendly garden styles.

Plant in full sun with well-draining, moderately fertile soil. Space plants 40–50 cm apart for healthy airflow and growth. Drought-tolerant once established and low-maintenance-deadhead to extend flowering or leave seed heads for winter interest and wildlife. Cut back in late autumn or early spring to refresh the plant for the following season.

Trimming: Cut back spent flower stems to just above the foliage after flowering to keep the plant tidy and encourage a possible second flush. In late autumn, allow stems to remain for winter structure and bird food, then cut back to ground level in early spring.

Deadheading: Regularly deadhead faded blooms to extend the flowering season and maintain a neat appearance. Leave some seed heads if desired for birds or naturalising.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Avoid overfeeding, as Echinacea performs best in moderately fertile, free-draining soil.

Watering: Water consistently during establishment and in dry periods. Once established, ‘Pink Parasol’ is drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering during extended dry spells.

Pest Control: Generally pest-free, but keep an eye out for aphids, leafhoppers, or caterpillars. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil if infestations occur.

Disease Management: Ensure good airflow to prevent powdery mildew and fungal leaf spots. Avoid overhead watering, and promptly remove any discoloured or distorted foliage. Plant in well-drained soil to reduce the risk of crown rot and aster yellows.
