Echinacea Happy Star

Echinacea Happy Star is a delightful perennial known for its large, pure white daisy-like flowers with prominent golden-orange centres. Long-lasting and flowering profusely from late spring through autumn, they attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies and are perfect for cut arrangements, adding beauty to both garden and home. The plant forms a sturdy, upright clump that adds structure and charm to garden beds and borders.

It is ideal for cottage gardens, perennial borders, and wildflower gardens. This hardy and low-maintenance plant thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained soil with moderate moisture. It is also drought-tolerant once established, making it suitable for xeriscaping and low-water gardens.

At maturity, Echinacea Happy Star reaches a height of approximately 60-90cm and a spread of about 45-60cm. For optimal growth and a stunning display, space the plants about 45-60cm apart.

Trimming: Cut back stems in late autumn after flowering has finished. In early spring, trim any remaining dead stems to the ground to encourage new growth.

Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to extend the flowering period and promote further flowering. This also helps maintain a tidy appearance.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Echinacea Happy Star typically thrives in moderately fertile soil, so avoid over-fertilising to prevent excessive leafy growth.

Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and during prolonged dry periods. Once established, Echinacea Happy Star is drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering. Ensure the soil is well-draining to prevent root rot.

Pest Control: Monitor for common pests such as aphids, Japanese beetles, and caterpillars. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Handpick larger pests if practical.

Disease Management: Watch for signs of powdery mildew, leaf spot, and aster yellows. Improve air circulation by spacing plants properly and avoiding overhead watering. Remove and dispose of any affected plant parts to prevent the spread of disease. Apply appropriate fungicides if necessary.
